Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rainfall and Gusty Winds Following Orange Alert by IMD

Mumbai and its suburbs are expecting moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated very heavy showers, accompanied by gusty winds up to 60 kmph. An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Sindhudurg, while Raigad and Ratnagiri are under a red alert for severe rainfall.

Mumbai and its suburbs are bracing for moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday, with isolated regions likely to experience very heavy showers, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Gusty winds reaching up to 50-60 kmph are also predicted for the day. The high tide at 3:32 pm is expected to reach 4.46 metres, while the low tide at 9:44 pm will drop to 0.98 metres.

Although Mumbai has been witnessing minimal rainfall presently, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert forecasting moderate to heavy rains in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Sindhudurg. A more severe red alert has been sounded for Raigad and Ratnagiri, anticipating heavy to very heavy downpours.

Over the past 24 hours, Mumbai City recorded an average rainfall of 81 mm, Western Suburbs 92 mm, and Eastern Suburbs 80 mm. Notable high rainfall areas include Nariyal Wadi Municipal School in Vakola (142.2 mm), Sewri Koliwada Municipal School in Sewri (137.6 mm), and 'N' Ward Office in Ghatkopar (133.34 mm).

The BMC has reassured that weather conditions remain normal and all educational institutions within its jurisdiction will remain open on Friday. Parents are advised to rely solely on official information from the BMC regarding school closures, avoiding any misinformation or rumors. The civic administration encourages citizens to stay in contact with school and college management for further updates.
