In a recent Lok Sabha session, former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi's comments regarding jailed MP Amritpal Singh have sparked significant controversy. Amritpal's mother, Balwinder Kaur, expressed gratitude towards Channi for addressing the alleged injustice experienced by her son. Speaking to ANI, Kaur encouraged people to speak out against any form of injustice and called for her son's release from detention under the National Security Act (NSA).

Amritpal's father, Tarsem Singh, echoed similar sentiments, urging other members of parliament to advocate for Punjab's rights. He criticized the treatment of Punjab in the recently announced budget and called for collective opposition against it.

Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress moved to distance itself from Channi's remarks. Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh stressed that Channi's statements do not reflect the party's official stance. On social media platform X, Ramesh reiterated that the views expressed by Channi were his own. Channi's comments, which included allegations of an 'undeclared emergency' under the BJP government and restrictions on free speech, faced sharp criticism from BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala. Poonawala demanded answers from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing Channi of supporting a pro-Khalistan separatist.
