The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Brahmaputra is currently resting on one side following a major fire onboard, which led to the loss of a junior sailor, the Indian Navy confirmed. The incident took place on the evening of July 21 while the multi-role frigate was undergoing a refit.

According to the Indian Navy, the fire resulted in the warship severely listing to one side. Despite extensive efforts, the vessel could not be stabilized and continues to list alongside her berth. Search operations are ongoing for the missing junior sailor. An inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the fire. The ship's crew, along with naval dockyard firefighters, successfully brought the blaze under control by the morning of July 22.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has directed Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi to take appropriate action following the incident. 'The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, has informed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the fire onboard INS Brahmaputra and the subsequent damages,' stated the Office of the Raksha Mantri in a recent social media post.
