Jannik Sinner Triumphs Over Jack Draper to Reach U.S. Open Final
Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner defeated Briton Jack Draper in a grueling match to secure his spot in the U.S. Open final. Despite physical challenges and muggy conditions, Sinner overcame his opponent, who struggled with heat, humidity, and illness, to reach his second major final of the year.
Italian top seed Jannik Sinner triumphed over ailing Briton Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-2 to advance to the U.S. Open final on Friday. Battling muggy conditions at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Sinner pushed through a wrist injury sustained in the second set to reach his second major final of the year, following his Australian Open victory earlier this season.
Draper's performance was marred by the oppressive heat and humidity, causing him to vomit three times during the second set and deal with a drenched shirt. His ten double faults further hindered his chances of securing his first Grand Slam final appearance at age 22.
Sinner and Draper initially traded breaks in the first set, but momentum shifted in Sinner's favor when Draper double-faulted in the 11th game. Draper fought valiantly in the second set, but his physical struggles and multiple vomiting episodes shifted the match decisively towards Sinner. Sinner clinched the final set with a spectacular backhand winner, sealing his victory and showing resilience under pressure.
