In a notable verdict, Saket District Court has rejected the plea of Aftab Amin Poonawala, accused in the murder case of Shraddha Walkar, seeking to hold trials only twice a month to allow his counsel ample time for defence preparation. The court termed this as a deliberate attempt to delay the proceedings.

Special Fast Track Court Judge Manish Khurana Kakkar emphasized that with substantial witnesses already examined and crucial testimonies pending, the accused appeared to be intentionally stalling the trial. As of June 2023, only 134 out of 212 witnesses had been examined, necessitating consecutive hearing dates for a swift conclusion.

Meanwhile, Vikas Walkar, the victim's father, has applied for the release of her bones for cremation. The court acknowledged his right to a dignified cremation for his daughter, balancing this with the ongoing need to examine the evidence. The trial proceeds with heightened urgency to accommodate both judicial process and familial rights.
