In a pressing demand for justice, former Rajya Sabha member Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati has called for the booking of Walmik Karad, a close aide of Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde, under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for his alleged involvement in the murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh.
Karad, who is reportedly linked to an extortion case related to Deshmukh's murder, surrendered to the CID in Pune, following a significant meeting between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Dhananjay Munde. Chhatrapati believes Karad's surrender was influenced by the discussions between these political figures, expressing doubts about the ongoing investigation.
Highlighting discrepancies, Chhatrapati noted that Karad evaded arrest for 22 days after Deshmukh's death and cited instances of Karad visiting a shrine and being admitted to a Pune hospital. He criticized the investigation as flawed and urged Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to clarify his stance on protecting Dhananjay Munde.
