Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Train Derailment: Relief Operations on War Footing

After the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Gonda, killing three and injuring 30, relief efforts are underway with teams of NDRF and SDRF deployed. The UP Chief Minister and railway authorities have announced immediate measures and compensation for victims.

The derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Gonda has resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals and left 30 others injured. Relief work is being carried out urgently, according to Aditi Umrao, Project Director of the Relief Commissioner Office. Teams from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) have been deployed for the task.

Umrao stated, "Adequate ambulances, three teams of SDRF, and two NDRF teams have been deployed under the supervision of the District Magistrate (DM) and other officials. Helpline numbers have been set up. Rahat Helpline 1070 is now operational 24/7, with additional numbers activated."

For the families of those injured, provisions for necessary facilities such as water have been made, and all injured victims have been hospitalized. Umrao added, "Specialized care will be provided if needed. The rescue operation is nearing completion as all coaches have been explored."

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath confirmed that senior officials and medical teams rushed to the scene. He emphasized that ongoing rescue and relief operations are a top priority. "The train accident in Gonda district is extremely sad. Officials are directed to expedite relief and ensure proper treatment for the injured," he said in a post on X.

In response, the Ministry of Railways has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for those with serious injuries, and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries. Both a Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry and a high-level inquiry have been launched to investigate the derailment.
