The Carnegie Endowment, one of the leading Western think-tanks, provides extensive analysis on Russia. This new designation by Moscow follows similar actions against a host of Russian independent media and Western nonprofits that could result in punishment for anyone working with or disseminating its content.

The decision marks another move by Russian authorities to tighten control over information and limit the influence of external groups inside the country.
