Mumbai Faces Heavy Downpour, Traffic Disruptions Amid Waterlogging

Mumbai witnesses substantial rainfall causing waterlogging and traffic snarls. IMD and BMC forecast continued moderate to heavy rains for the city and neighboring areas. Central Mumbai recorded the highest rain at 83 mm, with more expected along coastal India.

Mumbai has been experiencing heavy downpours since Thursday morning, leading to significant waterlogging and severe traffic congestion. In the last 24 hours, the city has faced continuous heavy rain, with forecasts indicating continued moderate to heavy spells throughout the day, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Coastal parts of Mumbai can anticipate high tide waves rising to 3.78 meters at about 10 am and 3.23 meters around 9:30 pm, the BMC announced. The IMD also predicts light to moderate rainfall along the western coast in Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala, as well as in the northern regions, including Jammu & Kashmir, West Uttarakhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, West Assam, East Telangana, and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are expected in the next three hours.

In the past 24 hours, the Central Region of Mumbai recorded an average rainfall of 83 mm, with the Eastern Suburbs at 45 mm and the Western Suburbs at 39 mm. Colaba received the highest rainfall at 51.8 mm, followed by Santacruz at 27 mm. Moderate rains are likely at isolated locations in Maharashtra over the next 3-4 hours, the IMD reported.
