Owing to relentless heavy rains, district administrations in eight Kerala districts have mandated the closure of educational institutions on Wednesday. The districts affected include Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam.

The closure applies universally to all educational institutions, ranging from schools and colleges to tuition centers and Anganwadis. In particular, the Alappuzha district announced holidays due to severe waterlogging.

District collectors affirmed that pre-scheduled exams remain unaffected. Meteorological authorities forecast that the heavy rains will persist over the next four days.

Currently, Kozhikode and Kannur are under a red alert, although no district faces such a warning tomorrow. Orange alerts cover Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, while yellow alerts apply to Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad for Wednesday. Earlier predictions from the IMD had warned of heavy rains in multiple Kerala districts.

The IMD had issued red alerts for Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod, and orange alerts for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Yellow alerts were also issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki due to the likelihood of very heavy rain.

Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the seas off the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. Educational holidays extended to institutions in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kasaragod on Monday, with the exception of colleges in Kasaragod.
