A daring rescue operation by the Delhi Police, in collaboration with the Manobal NGO, led to the liberation of a 14-year-old orphan girl from a brothel on Shradhanand Marg, Ajmeri Gate. Authorities acted swiftly on a tip-off received on July 12, 2024, concerning her exploitation in the sex trade.

Under the supervision of DCP Central M Harsha Vardhan, law enforcement discovered the minor being held by Anjali alias Meena, a 42-year-old resident of the premises. The girl was immediately rescued and placed in a secure shelter, where NGO counsellors provided crucial support, conducting interviews to evaluate her well-being and gather details about her ordeal. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the girl was trafficked to the brothel by Anas from Zakir Nagar, Okhla, Delhi, only days before.

Medical tests at Lok Nayak Hospital on July 13 confirmed her physical condition, and her statement was recorded. The police have since lodged a case under multiple legal provisions, including the Bonded Labour System (BNS) Act, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITP Act), and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Kamla Market Police Station.

The victim, originally from Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, had traveled to Delhi in search of employment but fell prey to exploitation. Prompt action by the All Women Police Personnel at SN Marg and support from PS Kamla Market prevented further victimization in the area. Anjali alias Meena has been arrested and remains in judicial custody following proceedings before a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC). Anas, the alleged trafficker, is still being pursued by authorities. (ANI)
