Two days after a wave of violence and arson ravaged Tripura's Ganda Twisa sub-division, authorities reported that around 30 to 40 shops and 20 to 25 houses were completely destroyed. Four arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

On Sunday, Dhalai District Magistrate Saju Vaheed A and Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai chaired a peace meeting aimed at restoring confidence among the local population. Senior officials engaged with local businessmen, offering full support and urging the immediate reopening of the market, which had been shuttered for two days.

District Magistrate Vaheed informed ANI that the local business community had presented a four-point charter of demands focusing on security issues. He mentioned that the assessment of damage is complete and compensation will soon be provided. The affected families will be relocated to their homes from temporary shelters.

Local residents have requested security camps in the affected areas, which have already been established, and called for a thorough investigation. Vaheed assured that serious action will be taken against those found intentionally involved in the violence and urged residents to maintain peace and not be influenced by rumors. There have been no fresh instances of violence since the incident.

Vaheed further noted that around 30 shops and 25 houses were fully damaged during the incident, which spanned seven locations on the outskirts of Gandacherra. Four arrests have been made, and authorities aim to resolve the case and apprehend all perpetrators soon.

Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai attributed the violence to heightened emotions following a July 7 scuffle that resulted in a severe injury and eventual death. The situation escalated into arson and vandalism but was brought under control within hours. Rai urged locals not to believe rumors, assuring them that security forces are deployed in large numbers.

Rai added that the mastermind behind the violence will be apprehended soon. Four individuals have already been arrested in connection with the initial incidents.
