The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday. A monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation have developed over Mumbai, resulting in strong westerly winds, according to the Met Department.

An orange alert signals extremely bad weather that affects transportation facilities, including rail, road, and air travel. The Palghar region of Maharashtra has also been experiencing heavy rain since this morning, following the IMD's orange alert in the recently issued nowcast warning.

IMD forecasts heavy rain at isolated places in Mumbai for the next three to four hours. "Intense spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai during the next 3-4 hours," the IMD said. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for the Thane and Raigad regions in today's nowcast warning.

Mumbai has already faced waterlogging and traffic issues due to recent heavy rainfall. Earlier, the IMD had issued a yellow alert and predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai until July 12. Heavy to moderate rainfall is also expected in several regions of Maharashtra, including Palghar, Thane, and others up to July 12.
