In a significant prelude to the Union Budget presentation, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday engaged in discussions with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, urging for enhanced financial support to alleviate the state's debt burden.

During the encounter, Naidu outlined the financial necessities and ongoing projects in the state that require immediate central aid. 'The CM submitted a comprehensive memorandum detailing the state's financial needs and justifications for increased allocation,' disclosed sources privy to the discussions.

Accompanied by TDP ministers, Naidu also conferred with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister J P Nadda. The public debt in Andhra Pradesh has surged from 31.02 per cent of the GSDP in 2019-20 to 33.32 per cent in 2023-24, reflecting a deteriorating fiscal scenario.
