State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Indian Oil Corporation have entered into a landmark agreement to establish a small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant near the Hatta gas field in Madhya Pradesh.
Signed on June 17, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to leverage ONGC's gas discovery in the Vindhyan basin by converting the gas into LNG. This LNG will be transported by trucks to consumers, significantly enhancing the basin's status and upgrading it from Category II to Category I.
The plant will deploy cutting-edge technology to produce LNG, a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels. This aligns with India's climate change mitigation goals by reducing carbon emissions. ONGC has already submitted its field development plan to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, aiming to commercialize the assets in the Hatta area. This agreement marks an important step toward energy self-sufficiency and sustainable innovation in India's energy sector.
