Labour Party Pledges No New Oil and Gas Licences in North Sea
Britain's opposition Labour Party has announced it will not issue new licences for oil and gas exploration in the North Sea if it wins the upcoming general election. The party's manifesto argues that new licences won't reduce bills, ensure energy security, or mitigate the worsening climate crisis. Existing licences will be maintained.

Britain's opposition Labour Party said on Thursday it would not issue new licences to explore new oil and gas fields in the North Sea if it wins next month's general election.
"We will not issue new licences to explore new fields because they will not take a penny off bills, cannot make us energy secure, and will only accelerate the worsening climate crisis," it said in its policy manifesto.
However, it said it would not revoke existing licences and it would partner with business to manage existing fields for the entirety of their lifespan.
