A proposed ban in the European Union of substances known as PFAS or "forever chemicals", including some grace periods to find alternative substances, is expected to come into effect in 2026 or 2027, a Dutch health and environment official said on Tuesday.

Richard Luit, of the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, mentioned the "predicted time line" on Tuesday as part of a presentation of a regulation proposal filed by five European countries, including the Netherlands, with the European Chemicals Agency.
