The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik, has called for a comprehensive strategy to tackle the security challenges plaguing Northeast India. Addressing a seminar on Monday, Parnaik emphasized the need to gain public trust, minimize civilian casualties, and uphold human rights.
The seminar, hosted by the history department of Rajiv Gandhi University, explored the military history of the Northeast, particularly since India's independence. Parnaik noted how years of neglect have fueled insurgency in the region, contrasting British colonial strategies with those deployed in other parts of India.
The governor, serving as the chief rector of the central university, encouraged further academic exploration, urging research scholars to delve into military history for fresh insights on national security. The event was attended by students and scholars from various universities across the Northeast, and included the presentation of 13 research papers.
