Odisha is making strides to gain international recognition for its annual Bali Yatra festival, held in Cuttack city. This effort was confirmed by Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
Speaking in the assembly, Suraj announced that a team of experts has been formed to work towards securing UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage recognition for the festival. The state hopes this will elevate the festival to international prominence.
The Bali Yatra festival, celebrating historical maritime trade ties with Southeast Asia, is one of the region's largest trade fairs. Officials, including Congress MLA Sofia Firdous and BJD legislator Devi Ranjan Tripathy, have proposed making Bali Yatra a national festival, further underscoring its cultural significance.
