Mamata Banerjee Mourns the Loss of Economist Bibek Debroy

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed sorrow over the passing of Bibek Debroy, a renowned economist and chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Debroy was a celebrated scholar recognized for his contributions, and he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday expressed profound grief over the demise of esteemed economist Bibek Debroy, describing him as a 'brilliant son of Bengal and a scholar of repute.'

Debroy, who served as the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, passed away in New Delhi. Banerjee conveyed her sorrow in a post on X, stating, 'Saddened by the news of the sudden demise of Bibek Debroy, noted economist and Chairman of PM's Economic Advisory Council.'

Debroy, a 69-year-old alumnus of Ramakrishna Mission School and Presidency College in Kolkata, was honored with the Padma Shri award in 2015. Banerjee offered her condolences to Debroy's bereaved family and friends.
