Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters intensified their peaceful demonstration, continuing their silent fast for the 15th consecutive day at Delhi's Ladakh Bhawan on Sunday. Aspirants, who planned to join Wangchuk's call for a 'maun vrat' were detained by police amidst heavy barricading.
Wangchuk clarified on social media that the gathering is not a protest but a 'maun vrat'—a vow of silence. The activist urged participants to refrain from consuming resources excessively, reducing electricity and water usage as a symbolic gesture to protect the environment.
The group, led by the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance, advocates for Ladakh's sixth schedule inclusion, statehood, and political representation enhancements. This initiative aims to facilitate local involvement in eco-sensitive area decisions. Participants demand dialogues with PM Narendra Modi to discuss these aspirations.
