Beacon of Heritage: New Lighthouses Illuminate Odisha's Coastline

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal revealed plans to construct two new lighthouses on the Odisha coast, aiming to enhance the region's tourism appeal. Located at Chaumukha in Balasore district and Dhamra in Bhadrak, these additions were announced during the 2nd Indian Lighthouse Festival.
Currently, Odisha boasts five operational lighthouses: Gopalpur, Puri, Chandrabhaga, Paradip, and False Point. Sonowal, overseeing ports, shipping, and waterways, stressed the importance of supporting coastal communities, turning them into vibrant societies around these maritime structures.
Launching the Kalwan reef lighthouse in Gujarat, Sonowal reiterated the government's dedication to highlighting lighthouses as symbols of India's historical and cultural legacy, stimulating economic growth. Visitor numbers have surged, surpassing 16 lakh last year, with ongoing investments fortifying their status as tourist hotspots.
