Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi Skips Vugar Gashimov Memorial for Modi Felicitation
Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi has decided not to defend his title at the 10th Vugar Gashimov Memorial Chess Super Tournament in Azerbaijan to attend a felicitation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gujrathi announced his decision on social media and expressed excitement over meeting the PM. He is replaced by Aravindh Chithambaram.

Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi has opted out of defending his title at the 10th Vugar Gashimov Memorial Chess Super Tournament in Azerbaijan. Instead, he will attend a felicitation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gujrathi, who led the Indian men's team to a historic gold at the Chess Olympiad, shared the decision on 'X', formerly known as Twitter. He expressed his excitement about the honor. 'I reached Baku and learned that our Hon'ble PM wants to felicitate the Indian team. I was overjoyed and wanted to be part of it,' he wrote.
Aravindh Chithambaram will replace Gujrathi at the event. Gujrathi thanked organizer Sarkhan Gashimov for understanding his sentiments and wished Aravindh success in the prestigious tournament.
