Harini Amarasuriya, Sri Lanka's newly appointed prime minister, shares a special bond with India, having studied at Delhi University's prestigious Hindu College in the early 1990s.

The 54-year-old, who took office this Tuesday as Sri Lanka's 16th Prime Minister, previously pursued a Bachelor's degree in Sociology at Delhi University from 1991 to 1994. She is also the first woman to hold the office since Sirimavo Bandaranaike in 2000.

Hindu College Principal Anju Srivastava expressed pride in Amarasuriya's accomplishments, emphasizing the college's long tradition of fostering student leadership. Former batchmate and Bollywood director Nalin Rajan Singh recalled her involvement in college events and expressed hope in her ability to strengthen India-Sri Lanka relations.
