The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday began imposing restrictions to vessel navigation at some ports in Alabama and Florida ahead of Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to lash those states between Wednesday and Thursday.

Port condition 'x-ray' was set for the ports of Mobile, Alabama, Panama City, Pensacola, and St. Joe, Florida. This condition means gale force winds are anticipated within 48 hours. The ports can remain open to commercial traffic, but ships must report their intention to remain in port or depart.

The early restrictions are aimed at ensuring safety and preparedness as the tropical storm approaches, with maritime businesses in the area advised to take necessary precautions.
