Former President Ram Nath Kovind condemned the adulteration of Tirupati laddus as 'highly unsanctified' and described such acts as 'sin' in Hinduism. He expressed fear that this issue might be prevalent in all temples and pilgrimage sites, raising concerns about the faith people have in their prasadam.
Speaking at a national seminar on cow, organic farming, and Panchagavya treatment, Kovind refrained from diving into the political aspect but admitted that the disturbing news about Tirumala prasadam has caused doubt about its sanctity. The allegations made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu against the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government regarding the use of substandard ingredients and animal fat have sparked a massive political row.
The YSRCP, however, accused Naidu of making these 'heinous allegations' for political mileage. Kovind recounted a personal experience, highlighting the widespread faith in temple prasadams while warning that adulteration problems could affect every temple and pilgrimage place. He underscored that such acts are considered sinful and require thoughtful deliberation to break this 'vicious circle.'
