Delhi is gearing up for an expansive butterfly and dragonfly census in September, inviting residents to join in the annual survey organized by the forest and wildlife department as part of the 'Butterfly Month' festivities.
Activities such as a butterfly walk and a photography competition will be key highlights, all aiming to raise public awareness about the city's diverse butterfly species. The butterfly survey will be led by Ishtiyaq Ahmed from the Give Me Trees Trust (GMTT) and will take place in locations like Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary.
Simultaneously, the dragonfly and damselfly census, an essential part of Delhi's biodiversity initiative, will be held from September 18 to 20 at seven city parks. Faiyaz Khudsar, head of the biodiversity parks programme, explained the importance of these species as indicators of ecosystem health.
