LOS ANGELES, Sept 9 - James Earl Jones, the legendary American actor celebrated for his commanding stage and screen presence, has died at the age of 93, his agent confirmed on Monday. Jones, who surmounted a childhood stutter to develop a globally recognized voice, was best known for his role as Darth Vader.
Jones' deep, resonating bass voice brought fear and respect, from the villainous Darth Vader in 'Star Wars' to the noble Mufasa in 'The Lion King'. Despite his vast contributions to cinema, he remained humble about earning only $9,000 for his initial work as Vader, considering it merely a special effects job.
Critically acclaimed for his performances, Jones won numerous awards, including Tonys, Emmys, and a Grammy. His career began with Lieutenant Luther Zogg in Stanley Kubrick's 'Dr. Strangelove' and spanned across iconic roles in theater and film, making him a true pillar of the acting world.
