Revitalizing Malayalam Cinema: Launch of the Progressive Filmmakers' Association

At a critical juncture for the Malayalam cinema industry, rocked by revelations in the Justice K Hema Committee report, a group of prominent film personalities is set to establish a new film body focused on industry revitalization and fostering a fair workplace.
The proposed Progressive Filmmakers' Association has circulated a vision note among industry members, signed by notable figures including filmmakers Anjali Menon, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Rajeev Ravi, and Aashiq Abu, actress Rima Kallingal, and producer Bineesh Chandra.
The note highlights that despite significant contributions to Kerala's economy and cultural fabric, the Malayalam film industry remains bound by outdated practices. The new association aims to modernize the sector with principles of ethical responsibility, systemic innovation, and workforce empowerment.
