Four young girls tragically drowned in the Parbati river in Rajasthan's Dholpur district on Sunday, plunging the local community into mourning. The incident occurred during the Rishi Panchami festival when Mohini (14), Priya (12), Anjali (14), and Tanu (10) were enjoying a dip in the river. Unfortunately, one girl lost her footing and was submerged in the 20-feet deep water. In a desperate attempt to save her, the other three girls met a similar fate. On Monday, a coordinated effort by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police led to the recovery of their bodies, found approximately 1.5 kilometers from the site of the accident. Following post-mortem examinations, the bodies were returned to their grieving families.
This heartbreaking event has cast a somber mood over the Rishi Panchami celebrations, highlighting the need for greater safety measures around water bodies.
The police and local authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines in an effort to prevent future tragedies.
