Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has confirmed the transfer of 112 hectares from Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agriculture University in Palampur to the Tourism Department for the establishment of a Tourism Village.

Sukhu made the announcement during a session in the state assembly, stressing that the transfer is final and that infrastructure will be developed to promote tourism. He clarified that there would be no casino on the premises, despite opposition from BJP's Vipin Singh Parmar and Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, who argued the transfer could disrupt the academic environment of the university.

Further, Sukhu assured that alternative private land could be allocated to the university should the need arise. Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ashish Butail and Raghuvir Singh Bali expressed support for the government's decision.
