Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday inaugurated a vulture conservation and breeding centre, emphasizing the legendary tale of vulture king Jatayu from the Ramayana as the ''first martyr'' who protected religion and dignity. Adityanath underscored that development must occur alongside environmental preservation for it to be sustainable.
Speaking at the event, Adityanath pointed out the detrimental effects of pesticides on vulture populations. He stated, ''When development is done by saving nature and the environment, it will be sustainable development. Its benefits will be reaped in the long run. Development at the cost of nature and environment is short-lived and dangerous.''
Adityanath also directed officials to establish a forestry college in Gorakhpur, promising new job opportunities in forest-related fields. He highlighted the significance of vulture conservation in honoring ancient traditions and reinforcing environmental efforts, celebrating the installation of a statue of vulture king Jatayu at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
