Former India wrestler Vinesh Phogat announced her resignation from the Indian Railways on Friday, attributing her decision to personal reasons amidst rumors of her potential entry into politics with the Congress party.
In a social media post featuring her resignation letter, Phogat described her tenure with Indian Railways as a 'memorable and proud' period. She served as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) with Northern Railways. 'At this point in my life, I have decided to separate myself from the railway service and have submitted my resignation to the competent authorities,' she stated.
The 30-year-old, who exited the wrestling scene following her disqualification from the 50kg gold medal match at the Paris Olympics, had her appeal against the decision rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. 'I will always be grateful to the Indian Railway family for this opportunity given to me in the service of the nation,' she conveyed.
