Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has generously donated his one month's salary, amounting to Rs 2.3 lakh, to the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) for rehabilitation efforts following the Wayanad landslides, the party's state unit announced on Wednesday.
According to KPCC general secretary M Liju, this contribution is part of a larger fundraising campaign initiated by Gandhi, which aims to construct 100 houses for those who lost their loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in the catastrophic landslides of July 30. The state unit is actively collecting funds for this cause.
In an effort to streamline donations, a mobile app titled 'Stand with Wayanad - INC' has been launched, enabling Congress workers, supporters, and leaders to donate directly. Contributors will receive an SMS and a digital receipt signed by KPCC president K Sudhakaran and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly V D Satheesan upon validation. KPCC has established a nine-member committee to oversee fundraising and reconstruction activities, while mandalam committees in Wayanad are exempted from fundraising duties. The disaster claimed over 200 lives, with 78 individuals still missing.
