Actor Vijay Varma received high praise from Captain Devi Sharan for his role in Netflix’s 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'. The six-episode series dramatizes the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight. Varma emphasized capturing Sharan's essence instead of mere imitation, a sentiment echoed by Sharan and his wife.

Actor Vijay Varma has earned accolades for his portrayal of Captain Devi Sharan in Netflix's 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'. At a press event on Tuesday, Varma revealed that the highest compliment came directly from Sharan himself, the real-life captain involved in the 1999 hijacking incident.

"I was elated when Captain Devi Sharan appreciated my work," Varma said. "His wife even said, 'I know this man more than he knows himself, and you've come very close to him.' This affirmation means a lot to me."

The series, which spans six episodes, dramatizes the traumatic week-long hijacking ordeal. Varma stated his performance aimed to capture Sharan's spirit rather than imitate him. Director Anubhav Sinha and co-stars including Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, and Dia Mirza also attended the event to discuss the series' impact and reception.
