President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday stressed the need to change societal views on women during the centenary celebrations of the Maharashtra Legislative Council in Mumbai. She asserted that without women's socio-economic and educational progress, India's development would remain incomplete.
Murmu pointed out that women make up half of India's population and their active participation in various spheres is essential for the country's advancement. 'Without their socio-economic and educational progress, the country's development cannot be achieved the way it should be,' she remarked.
The President's comments come in the wake of recent crimes against women, including the heinous rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata. She also praised historical figures like Veermata Jijabai and Savitribai Phule for their contributions to women's education and empowerment.
