Kutty Padmini, a veteran actor and member of the internal complaints committee formed by the South Indian Artistes' Association (SIAA), has voiced her skepticism over the promises of action against sexual abuse in the Tamil film industry. Without proper legislation, she contends, these promises will remain empty.

'The situation is dire,' Padmini told PTI. She pointed to her own history in the industry, revealing that she faced abuse at the age of 10 and recounting how she and her mother were expelled from a film after reporting it.

Even with notable figures like singer Chinmayi and actor Sri Reddy taking a stand during the #MeToo movement, Padmini notes that their careers suffered. She criticized the inactivity of past committees and called for genuine efforts rather than mere talk.
