Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin released a book authored by state Public Works Minister E V Velu on Dravidian stalwart and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday.

Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth received the first copy of the book, titled 'Kalaignar Ennum Thaai'.

Stalin highlighted that Kalaignar, affectionately known as Karunanidhi, was a paternal and maternal figure to many, including himself. Lauding Velu, who was highly regarded by Karunanidhi for his efficiency, Stalin emphasized Velu's proficiency in writing.

Udhayanidhi Stalin noted that Velu's book is the first to liken Karunanidhi to a motherly figure, despite several works portraying him in various other roles. Rajinikanth praised the initiative, stating that the fame of leaders like Karunanidhi continues through such portrayals in literature.

Velu expressed that he drew inspiration from Maxim Gorky's 'Mother' and Karunanidhi's autobiography 'Nenjukku Needhi'. He mentioned that the book was a labor of love, taking 11 years to complete. Remarks were also made by N Ram, Director of The Hindu Group Publishing Pvt Ltd., and Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigalar.
