The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) on Saturday accused Mercedes-Benz India of not adhering to environmental standards at its Pune manufacturing facility, urging a thorough review of the plant's operations.
In response, Mercedes-Benz India stated they have yet to receive any written notice from MPCB regarding the alleged violations but are prepared to take corrective action if necessary.
The MPCB uncovered these alleged violations during a routine inspection on August 23, 2024. The agency has already forfeited a Rs 25 lakh bank guarantee from the carmaker and mandated immediate compliance with its guidelines. MPCB Chairman Siddhesh Kadam emphasized the need for Mercedes-Benz to set an example in sustainable production practices.
