A 48-year-old Indian woman vanished in Malaysia's capital when the pavement collapsed, plunging her into a 26-foot sinkhole. Rescuers have found no sign of her, fearing she was swept away by an underground water current. Authorities are handling the search carefully to avoid infrastructural damage.
A 48-year-old tourist from India disappeared in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday after the pavement collapsed beneath her, resulting in her fall into a 26-foot-deep sinkhole. Eyewitnesses reported that she was walking in the Dang Wangi area when the incident occurred.
Rescue teams have barricaded part of the area and utilized an excavator to clear the debris from the sinkhole. However, there has been no immediate sign of the victim. Local police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman confirmed the collapse but refrained from speculating on the woman's condition or the incident's cause.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohamad Isa stated that a strong underground water current might have swept the woman away. He noted that the search operation demands meticulous planning due to the impact on public infrastructure, as shutting down pipes or drains could trigger flooding. Businesses near the sinkhole have temporarily closed as a precaution.
