In a rare occurrence, Sri Lanka's opening Test against New Zealand at Galle next month will extend over six days, including a rest day due to the presidential election on September 21.
Scheduled to start on September 18, the Test will feature a rest day on September 21, attributed to the Presidential Election of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, according to an ICC release on Friday.
This marks the first six-day Test for Sri Lanka in over two decades. The two-match series, part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle, will see the second Test held at the same venue from September 26-30. Rest days were commonplace in Test cricket during the last century, often occurring on Sundays.
