Director Vivek Agnihotri, often criticized for making propaganda films, reiterated his right to choose his film subjects.

Agnihotri's 2022 film 'The Kashmir Files' captures the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus, while his 2019 film 'The Tashkent Files' investigates Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's mysterious 1966 death in Uzbekistan.

Agnihotri told PTI that 'The Delhi Files' will cover undivided Bengal's tumultuous history, referencing the Noakhali riots of 1946 and notable figures from that era.

He responded to calls for more regional focus by stating, ''There are many filmmakers; let anyone take up the task. I want to raise awareness on issues I choose.''

While participating in a Kolkata rally against a doctor's alleged murder, he urged women MPs to protest more actively, expressing his distrust of politicians.

Despite being inspired by West Bengal icons, Agnihotri felt criticism, like that from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 'The Kashmir Files,' was "unwarranted."

He accused the West Bengal government of obstructing research for 'The Delhi Files,' affirming his role as a filmmaker to convey stories to "the people's court."
