The prestigious award recognizes the finest non-fiction about modern and contemporary Indian history, with an award of Rs 15 lakhs and an annual citation given at the Bangalore Literature Festival.
The jury commended the diversity of the nominated works, highlighting their contribution to understanding independent India. The prize, named after social reformer Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, is open to writers of all nationalities and was instituted in 2018.
