A six-year-old boy was mauled to death by a leopard in a village in Uttarakhand's Pauri district, officials reported on Tuesday.

Aditya was playing in the courtyard of his maternal grandparents' home in Kota village of Rikhnikhal block at 7:30 PM on Monday when the leopard attacked, dragged him into the forest, said Garhwal DFO Swapnil Anirudh. Despite immediate efforts by his mother and grandmother, the boy's half-eaten body was found around 1:30 AM, nearly one kilometer from where the attack took place.

Authorities have installed eight cameras and placed four cages in the area to capture the leopard. A team with tranquilizer guns is also deployed. Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat expressed grief and highlighted that the fear of big cats contributes to migration from the hills. Rawat plans to address the issue in the upcoming state assembly session.
