Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh, has emphasized leveraging sports for social causes. Speaking at the third Voice of Global South Summit, Yunus cited the Paris Olympics 2024 as a prime example of this initiative.

Paris 2024, alongside trade unions and employer organizations, signed a social charter on June 19, 2019. The charter ensures the Games will be responsible in economic, social, and environmental aspects. A major first for any such event, this initiative promotes a sustainable approach to the Games.

Yunus, known for introducing social business and microcredit, lauded the Paris Olympics for adopting a 'social business Olympics' concept. He called for the Global South to unite in harnessing sports to solve societal issues. The Grameen Bank founder's presence in Paris terminated early due to his appointment as interim chief in Bangladesh amid political shifts.
