Regional cinema took center stage at the National Film Awards, announced on Friday, with the top honor of best feature film awarded to the Malayalam movie 'Aattam: The Play.' Rishabh Shetty won best actor for the Kannada film 'Kantara.'

The best actress prize was shared between Nithya Menen for 'Thiruchitrambalam' (Tamil) and Manasi Parekh for 'Kutch Express' (Gujarati). Bollywood's sole presence in major categories was marked by 'Uunchai,' with Sooraj R Barjatya named best director.

Other key winners included Neena Gupta (best supporting actress), Pavan Malhotra (best supporting actor), and AR Rahman (best music director, background). The awards, showcasing the richness of regional cinema, were announced by jury members Rahul Rawail and Nila Madhab Panda.
