''Just get the match to a shootout, and I'll make sure we win,'' a young PR Sreejesh would often assure his senior, Sardar Singh, with unshakable confidence.

Whenever Sreejesh manned the goalposts with his arms outstretched, his legion of fans felt reassured, sensing his unspoken promise of ''Main Hoon Na.''

His self-belief and fierce determination have defined a career that commands respect, love, and admiration in the realm of hockey.

Spanning nearly two decades, Sreejesh's journey is a rich tapestry of unforgettable moments, remarkable skill, and steadfast dedication. It was fitting, then, that he was honored with a historic farewell ceremony as the first Indian hockey player to receive such an accolade. The event featured hockey legends, including former captains Sardar Singh, Dillip Tirkey, and Mir Ranjan Negi, as well as the entire bronze-winning Indian team, all in matching red jerseys bearing Sreejesh's name and number.

Speakers at the event used words like inspiring, motivating, legendary, hardworking, and relentless to describe Sreejesh's extraordinary skill, commitment, and team camaraderie. ''He set an example for the youngsters. In my 10 years, I have never seen him rest. He has inspired many,'' said Sardar Singh.

Despite facing setbacks, including being dropped from the team, Sreejesh's resilience never wavered. ''Had it been any other player, he would have left somewhere between 2009 and 2010. But Sreejesh never gives up,'' added former coach Harendra Singh.

Hockey India President Dillip Tirkey and Coach Craig Fulton highlighted Sreejesh's dedication and motivational spirit. ''There is no better legend of modern hockey than Sreejesh. He is the best motivator and has done a thankless job like goalkeeping for so long,'' said Tirkey.

His peers also lauded his influence. ''As a person, he wears his heart on his sleeve,'' noted Coach Fulton. Midfielder Manpreet Singh echoed similar sentiments, appreciating Sreejesh's constant guidance from behind the goal.
