At least seven people lost their lives and 16 others sustained injuries in a stampede at Baba Siddheshwar Nath Temple in Bihar's Jehanabad district, an official confirmed on Monday.

The stampede broke out around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Barabar Pahadi area, where kanwariyas gather during the Kanwar Yatra. District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey stated that security personnel swiftly acted to control the situation, with the injured transported to nearby medical facilities in Mukundapur.

Pandey cited a dispute among kanwariyas or an altercation with local flower sellers as potential triggers of the incident. An inquiry is underway to confirm the exact cause. Families of the deceased will receive Rs 20,000 for last rites, with additional compensation to follow as per norms.
