Celebrated writer-director Mike Leigh will be honored with the TIFF Ebert Director Award at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Leigh, whose film 'Hard Truths' will premiere at the festival, has previously graced TIFF with works such as 'Another Year', 'Happy-Go-Lucky', and 'Mr. Turner'. Leigh's extensive accolades include seven Oscar nominations, the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and the Golden Lion at Venice.

The festival will also recognize Canadian director Durga Chew-Bose with the TIFF Emerging Talent Award. Chew-Bose's adaptation of Francoise Sagan's 'Bonjour Tristesse', starring Chloe Sevigny, will open the festival's Discovery program. Additionally, French songwriting and composing duo Camille Dalmais and Clement Ducol will be awarded the TIFF Artisan Award for their contributions to Jacques Audiard's 'Emilia Perez' soundtrack.

Proceeds from the Tribute Awards support the TIFF Every Story Fund, which fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion in filmmaking. The annual gala dinner fundraiser at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel bolsters these charity efforts and often precedes Oscar recognition for TIFF honorees.

Other awardees announced include Cate Blanchett, who will receive the Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award; David Cronenberg, honored with the Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award; and Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams, who will receive the TIFF Tribute Performer Award. Previous recipients of the Tribute Awards comprise a star-studded list including Jessica Chastain, Roger Deakins, Colman Domingo, Brendan Fraser, Anthony Hopkins, Joaquin Phoenix, Taika Waititi, Michelle Yeoh, and Chloe Zhao.
