Mamata Banerjee Announces 30th Kolkata International Film Festival with Star-Studded Appointments

The 30th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is scheduled for December 4-11, as announced by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Acclaimed filmmaker Goutam Ghose and Bengali film icon Prosenjit Chatterjee have been appointed as chairman and vice-chairman, respectively. The announcement was made during a function commemorating the 44th death anniversary of Bengali matinee idol Uttam Kumar.

The announcement, made at a star-studded state-sponsored function on the 44th death anniversary of Bengali matinee idol Uttam Kumar, revealed that acclaimed filmmaker Goutam Ghose has been appointed as KIFF chairman and Bengali film icon Prosenjit Chatterjee as vice chairman.

Banerjee highlighted that the festival would showcase the best works in both world and Indian cinema, continuing its tradition of rich and varied content. She recalled how her mother used to take her to watch films of Uttam Kumar, asserting his significant cultural and heritage impact on West Bengal. Special awards were also given, including 'Mahanayak Samman' in memory of Uttam Kumar to Rachana Banerjee and Nachiketa Chakraborty.
